The massive temple Banteay Chhmar was built during the end of 12 century and the beginning 13 century. Located in Banteay Meanchey province, which in northwest Cambodia. It’s located 63 km north of Sisophon and about 20 km east of the Thai border. It was built by Jayavarman II, it was dedicated to his son Srindrakumararajaputra and his 4 chief commander. They have died in 1177 when our country had war with Champa. The bas-relief had told us about the king Yasovarman II has attacked by Rahu, but saved by a young prince ” Srindrakumararajaputra “.

Day 1: Siem Reap – West Baray – Sisophon Hill Pagoda – Banteay Chhmar

The tour has stated at 7:30 am on backroads and drive past the West Baray to visit Wat Svay Romeat, which is along the shore of West Baray. Then forwarding to see the oldest temple in Angkor archaeological site ” Auk Yom temple “, it was built by the queen during 7 century. The tour will be heading to Sisophon along the National Road Number 6, stop at the Siem Reap silk farm it’s the best one to access. When we arrived in Sisophon, it’s a good time for lunch. And then go to visit the hill pagoda of Phnom Chanhchang. Comfortable place to get the fresh air and nice view over the countryside. Afterward, keep going on to Banteay Chhmar village for the dinner and to get an unforgettable experience to accommodate homestay here.

Day 2: Banteay Chhmar village and temples

In the morning, we visit some smaller temples around the area and village. After lunch, visit the main temple complex of Banteay Chhmar and the local pagoda. Next will visit Ang Trapaing Thmor, which is Crane Sanctuary. It’s a protected area of Cambodia on the site of a large Khmer Rouge irrigation project built during the 1970s. And it has the measure 10,250 hectares. Kept reserving and protected the Eastern Sarus Crane that’s a rare bird in the world. We will hire a boat to observe and to get a nice photo shoot with the birdlife, and when back to Siem Reap.
